Victoria
is the smallest mainland state, as well
as being the second most populated. There
is a lot to see and do here. The state
ranges from the Snowy Mountains and beautiful
coasts to the remote outback and lush
forests. The multicultural city of Melbourne
has a unique European atmosphere having
an old world charm blended with an elegant
feel. With the beautiful gardens that
line the Yarra River here, it's no wonder
that Victoria has been named the Garden
State. Melbourne is a center for the arts
and is noted for a wide variety of fine
restaurants.
The second most popular attraction in
Australia is the penguin parade of Phillip
Island. Every night at sunset hundred
of these tiny penguins return from the
ocean to their burrows. The 300 kms of
Great Ocean Road is known as one of the
world's most extraordinary scenic drives.
It was built by World War One veterans
to commemorate those who died. It is famous
for the Twelve Apostles, 12 colossal pillars
that have been carved from the sheer cliff
face lining the coast. A few of the many
other popular attractions here include
the Murray River (Australia's Mississippi),
the awe inspiring rock formations, falls
and plant life of the Grampians, and the
intricate waterways of the Gippsland lakes.
To truly grasp the rich culture
