Tasmania is the island state at the southern most point of Australia. Its isolated, natural setting of pristine forests, thousands of lakes, and island-scattered coastlines give way to Victorian style villages of small cottages and quaint homesteads.  Originally, Tasmania was established as a penal settlement.  The Port Arthur convict settlement of 1830-1877 was the largest and most important. Its choice of location on the Tasman Peninsula was perfect.  The narrowest point on the peninsula was easily guarded by dogs and the surrounding waters were said to be shark invested. Today, this is Tasmania's top tourist attraction.

Tasmania has very diverse wildlife. Shown above is this state's most famous animal - the Tasmanian Devil. This vicious little critter is the largest known living marsupial.  The larger Tasmanian Tiger is said to be extinct, although there are occasional alleged sightings. Its survival has remained a mystery.  Along the coast of Tasmania are large colonies of seals and penguins. Preservation of the natural habitat is ensured by the state's sixteen national parks.  This island's remote setting and spectacular scenery has to be experienced to be believed.

To truly grasp the rich culture and diverse beauty, each region has to be experienced.  Isn't it about time that you had a vacation?   When you are ready to make a reservation, check our current specials our ordering page, or contact us for a quote and let  Australia New Zealand Pacific Specialists, Inc.  customize your South Pacific trip of a life time.
