The Northern
Territory is home to some of Australia's
most remarkable attractions. One of the most
famous spots in Australia is Ayers Rock or Uluru
(see bottom of page). This colossal landmark
is 9 kilometers in circumference. Alice Springs
is located close by and is often used as a base
as it is the center of many popular tourist
locations. These include the Olgas (36 enormous
dome shaped rocks), Aboriginal cave paintings
and art, the beautiful Kings Canyon and the
gorges of the MacDonnell Ranges.
The largest city in the Northern Territory is
Darwin. In 1974 Cyclone Tracy ripped through
the city. It has been rebuilt and has become
modern city with bustling night life and a new
casino. Nearby is Kakadu National Park where
you can see some unique wildlife such as the
Australian crocodile (from a safe distance)
and breathtaking views of waterfalls and billabongs.
To truly grasp the rich culture
and diverse beauty, each region has to be experienced.
