Some
call the Cook Islands the Pacific's
best kept secret. This remote paradise
has a population of only 19,500 people.
The capital, Rarotonga, is home to
half of this number. The 15 islands
that make up the Cook Islands are
scattered over 2 million square kilometers.
Accommodation
can be found on the outer islands
if you are looking for a little more
seclusion. The island of Aitutaki
is one such island and is considered
a "must see." The tranquil lagoon
surrounding it measures 45 kms and
is known for its saltwater fly fishing
for bonefish. Other islands feature
raised coral cliffs, swamps, limestone
caves, native birds such as the moo
and kopeka, and a closer relationship
with the local people.
To truly grasp the rich culture
and diverse beauty, each region has to be experienced.
